The tourist resort of Wangenbourg-Engenthal, also known as the “Suisse d’Alsace” or the Switzerland of Alsace, is situated in the largest of the Vosges forests and just 40 minutes from Strasbourg. It is set in surroundings of lush greenery between 350 and 968 metres above sea level. The Schneeberg (Snow Hill) is its highest point (961 metres). Its undulating landscape is dotted with XIIIth century castles, waterfalls and numerous viewpoints overlooking the Alsace Plain and Lorraine.
The resort is criss-crossed by 300km of walking trails, 120km of all-terrain biking paths and 75km of Nordic skiing pistes, Its microclimate and its pure air with the scent of pines and fir trees make it the ideal place to stay and to enjoy its reinvigorating properties. .
The commune covers 3152 hectares and has a population of 1300. Its leading industries are tourism, timber and crafts.
It has a newsagent-tobacconist, a baker and grocery store and also a butcher. The shops are closed on Wednesday afternoons.
