A Traditional and Festive Event
The 'Ami Fritz' Wedding and Marlenheim have become inseparable. Over time, this event has become one of the flagship celebrations in our beautiful Alsace. Since 1973, this wedding has been celebrated every year in Marlenheim on August 14th and 15th. This event contributes to the attractiveness of this region, the Gateway to the Alsace Wine Route. Over the decades, this event has established itself as 'a summer rendezvous' in Alsace, appealing to all enthusiasts of folklore and gastronomy in the region. Thousands of tourists - from beyond the Vosges and elsewhere - as well as the local population come together for a few hours to experience the warm atmosphere of a rural wedding from the mid-19th century.
The 'Ami Fritz' Wedding is based on the novel by Erckmann-Chatrian written in 1864, narrating the life of Fritz Kobus. An Alsatian-Lorraine in a small town in the 19th century, single and good-natured, he is determined never to succumb to the confinement of marriage. His best friend, the rabbi, tries by all means to change his mind. Nothing works. But life will take a turn for him when he meets the beautiful Süzel.
